WASHINGTON — House Democrats just unveiled a trove of fresh impeachment evidence against President Trump in a surprise move just days before his impeachment trial is set to kick off in the Senate.

The records include a note written by an associate of Rudy Giuliani named Lev Parnas about getting the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, to investigate Trump’s Democratic rival in the 2020 election, former Vice President Joe Biden: “Get Zalensky [sic] to Annonce [sic] that the Biden case will Be Investigated.”

The documents, sent to the House impeachment committees by Parnas, also include a letter from Giuliani to Zelensky that appears to cast Trump as fully aware of Giuliani’s activities in Ukraine. At that time, in the spring of 2019, Giuliani was publicly urging Ukraine to investigate Trump’s Democratic 2020 rival Joe Biden.

“In my capacity as personal counsel to President Trump and with his knowledge and consent, I request a meeting with you on this upcoming Monday, May 13th or Tuesday, May 14th,” Giuliani wrote.
